Module 4 Read the section on fascism in chapter 20 of our textbook. You do not need to read the entire chapter. Then spend 30 minutes doing self-guided research on the internet about fascism.  Fascism was known as something that was said all across Europe. It was something that was known as being nationalistic, and to purify the nation. The spokesman of it all was all for violence towards enemies. With the renewing force in society, many placed their faith in a leader. Fascists also were against individualism, liberalism, feminism, parliamentary democracy, and communism because they viewed it as something that only weakened the nation. There were small fascist movements in many Western European countries, as well as France, Great Britain and the Netherlands. There were more movements that took place in places like Austria, Hungary, and Romania. In Italy, the nation had barely become unified in 1805, but was short lived due to Northern Italy eventually creating tension. Mus...

Module 3  What strategies did China adopt to confront its various problems? In what ways did these strategies reflect China’s own history and culture as well as the new global order?  China had this idea of ‘self strengthening’ their policies during the 1860-70’s. They had this examination system that recruited qualified candidates for official positions. After the Taipang rebellion, they needed support for landlords as well as the repair of things like dikes, and irrigation to help restore the social and economic order. With the help of some factories producing textiles and steel. The coal mines had expanded and a telegraph system was at least initiated. After some time the concept of “self strengthening” had shown all that it was a fail. There were many problems China dealt with and trying to solve many problems with one general solution and as time had shown, it wasn’t in their favor. Especially with the rise of the Boxer Uprising which had left Europeans, and Chinese Chr...

Module 2 Read the poem on page 798 by Nguyen Khuyen, a Vietnamese official during French colonial rule. If you had the opportunity to share a glass of his “fine wine” (or a cup of tea) with Mr. Nguyen, what would you say to him? How might that conversation go? If I had a conversation with him it would generally be about life and the idea of ‘friends’.  I would say something like, “Why do you feel like you should only drink the fine wine with friends? Why don’t you think you deserve some just on your own? Even today there are many people who don’t like doing things simply because they refuse to do it alone. Myself included. I am indeed guilty of this act. I can relate with you when it comes to the idea of having money. Because I’ve always been pretty good when it comes to saving so when I want something or want to go do something I’m always fine, but then it goes back to the whole not wanting to do it alone. But, it is something that we should all get used to. I’ve learned, wel...

Module 1:  How did the Industrial Revolution transform British society?  Before the Industrial Revolution, the aristocrats were pretty much at the top. They were the ones who had control over things being the dominant class of Britain. Before the revolution, there were many families, (appox. more than half) who had owned more than half of the land, and they would use a majority of it for people who would farm, which also provided work for others. The change occurred  when it came to the rise of urban wealth. It brought a huge decline to the landowners since they had to make room for all the new things that were coming in like businessmen, manufacturers, and bankers. one of the things that had the biggest effects on them was when the tariffs on the high foreign imports that were protecting the British were abolished. the ones who really owned property, were the ones who had money or were businessmen as opposed to simply having it just from being an aristocrat. They were ...
